Quick answer
- NAB's sending fee depends on the currency and transfer channel.
- Sending AUD leaves conversion to another provider later.
- Receiving charges depend on the payment route.
NAB charges no fee to send foreign currency overseas from its app or Internet Banking, and $30 to send Australian dollars online or to use a branch. This page covers those sending fees, what NAB charges on money coming in, how its rate quotes work and its card fees overseas. The fees below were checked on NAB's own pages on 30 October 2026.

Fees below are as NAB published them on that date.
NAB's sending fees
Sending fees in Australian dollars, as published by NAB on 30 October 2026 on its international transfer information page and international money transfers page:
| Transfer method | Currency sent | Transfer fee |
|---|---|---|
| NAB app or NAB Internet Banking | Foreign currency | $0 |
| NAB Internet Banking | AUD | $30 |
| Branch | Foreign currency or AUD | $30 |
The transfer fee is one part of the price. The ACCC explains that providers can include a margin in the exchange rate, including when a service is advertised as fee free. Our guide to international money transfer pricing explains how the fee and exchange rate fit together.
Overseas bank fees on NAB transfers
NAB says it covers overseas bank fees for online international transfers through its app and Internet Banking, and reimburses fees deducted by partner banks, as published by NAB on 30 October 2026. That cover is for online sends only.
Banks use SWIFT to send payments between financial institutions around the world. The ACCC distinguishes between correspondent banking charges deducted along the way and charges imposed by the recipient's bank. Our SWIFT and receiving bank fees guide explains those roles.
Sending in AUD vs foreign currency
If you send Australian dollars, NAB doesn't convert them. NAB explains that another provider converts the payment after the transfer, using that provider's rate. That rate could be more or less favourable, so the recipient may receive a different amount from what you intended.
NAB says converting before sending gives more certainty.
For the overall price, the ACCC points to the exchange rate, all fees and the amount the recipient receives. Its foreign currency guidance also explains why a fee-free label doesn't describe the whole cost. Read more about the conversion component in our exchange rate margin guide.
Receiving money through NAB
Receiving fees in Australian dollars, as published by NAB on 30 October 2026 on its receive money from overseas page:
| Payment route | Fee |
|---|---|
| To a NAB account, in any currency | Up to $15 |
| Through NAB to a non-NAB account, in AUD | Up to $30 |
| Foreign currency passed through NAB to another bank without conversion | Up to $35 |
| AUD passed through NAB to an offshore account | Up to $35 |
These are "up to" amounts, so the full figure won't apply to every payment. If the sender chooses to pay the receiving fee, NAB says it won't charge the recipient, as published by NAB on 30 October 2026.
NAB can also act as an intermediary. In that role, it may convert a payment into AUD before forwarding it.
NAB's rate quotes
NAB Internet Banking initially displays an indicative exchange rate. On the final page, it provides a real-time rate during the period from 7.30am Monday to midnight Friday. That rate updates every 60 seconds, and you have 60 seconds to accept it.
Outside those times, NAB says the next business day's rate applies.
NAB also publishes a default daily Internet Banking limit of $5,000 for international transfers.
NAB card fees overseas
Card charges as published by NAB on 30 October 2026 on its international transaction fee page:
| Card transaction or charge | Published fee |
|---|---|
| International transactions on NAB credit cards, except the NAB Rewards Travel Card | 3.5% of the transaction amount |
| Overseas ATM withdrawal, personal debit and credit cards listed | $5 per withdrawal |
| NAB Platinum Visa Debit purchases | $0 international transaction fee |
| NAB Platinum Visa Debit overseas cash withdrawals | 3.5% international transaction fee |
NAB says you don't have to be overseas for an international transaction fee to apply. Online purchases processed overseas or in foreign currency can attract the fee, even on an Australian website. Paying in AUD while overseas still attracts it.
Our travel money guide explains the broader differences between cash, debit cards, credit cards and travel cards.
What this means for you
On NAB's published fees, online transfers in foreign currency cost nothing in fees and NAB covers overseas banks' fees on them. Sending AUD online or using a branch costs $30. The exchange rate is the part the fee table leaves out: NAB's firm rate only appears on the final Internet Banking page, for 60 seconds, during its quoting hours.
